JCO/MAY 2003 C II nonextraction treatment involving headgear and Class II elastics often requires exceptional patient cooperation. As a result, more and more clinicians are prescribing “noncompliance” molar distalization appliances. These appliances have some negative side effects, however, including a significant loss of anchorage that can manifest itself in mesially tipped bicuspids, anteriorly inclined upper incisors, and increased overjet.1-3 The present article describes an alternative method for enhancing anterior anchorage with the First Class Appliance*4 or other intraoral molar distalization devices.
